Lia Mara - Artist Profile

As an artist, I’m always looking for the next opportunity to create something out of colours, shadows and shapes. I've been painting since I was 15, but I have only recently tried to make a career out of it. Now I have taken a leap into self-employment and am dedicating my time to the arts. I am originally from England but am now based in Germany, where I work from my home studio.

I have experience in a range of media, although my own particular preference is using oil paint. I love the versatility that it gives me, the feel of the paint and the long drying time (sometimes!). I have discovered water miscible oils which I can definitely recommend to anyone who wishes to try them out. They let me avoid the harsh solvents and toxic fumes associated with traditional oil painting. I use walnut oil and lavender spike oil as natural solvents when I need to add more fat or fluidity to my paintings and I use plain water for clean-up.
